Million Dollar Club

The Million Dollar Club was established in 1990 by President Thomas Wallace and Provost David Strand "to recognize grant/contract productivity by members of the ISU community." The charter class was inducted by President Wallace and Provost Strand on November 26, 1990 in a ceremony held at Ewing Manor.

Accounting for grant/contract productivity over a career is sometimes difficult, and so the following guidelines are used for determining total grant/contract productivity:

  1. Only grants/contracts awarded during the faculty member's tenure at Illinois State University will count toward their total.
  2. Only grants/contracts processed through Research and Sponsored Programs will count toward the total. Awards made to the Illinois State University Foundation, contracts generating agency monies for departmental accounts, etc. will not count toward the total.
  3. Awarded indirect costs will be included in the total.
  4. Percent contribution is not factored into the calculation. For example, a $1.2 million grant with 3 faculty investigators will count as $1.2 million for each investigator, as long as the granting agency names them as co-investigators, co-principal investigators, etc. The grant will not count toward the million dollar total for "Significant contributors", "Major Users", and other less prominent roles.
