This project focuses on the development of a new class ligands for the catalytic asymmetric addition of diethylzinc tocarbonyl compounds and imines. The use of such reactions has proven to be very valuable in the preparation of chiral, non-racemic medicinal agents. Ultimately, this research program seeks to add to the body of knowledge and methods for conducting synthetic organic chemistry

~Shawn Hitchcock
";

The EDMAP grants have resulted in the publication of 17 quadrangles in various parts of Illinois. Once the surficial mapping is complete, this data will be used along with well and seismic data to construct a 3-D geologic model of the area. Our work to date has had a variety of significant outcomes, including the construction of aquifer sensitivity maps, determining the groundwater resource potential of the buried bedrock valleys, and constraining the complex glacial stratigraphy.

~David Malone
";
