Grants.gov Submissions
Updated Information - February 2008

Contact Research and Sponsored Programs (438-2528) as soon as you believe you will be applying for a federal grant through grants.gov.
Check the Grants.gov Website (http://www.grants.gov ) for updates on software and compatibility issues before you download an application package and begin to fill it out.
Required Software: In order to view and fill out grant application packages, Grants.gov requires specific software to be installed on the preparer’s computer. These are available free from the Grants.gov Web site (http://www.grants.gov )
- PureEdge Viewer or Adobe Reader 8.1.2
- A PI should have both of the software packages installed on his/her computer because currently some application packages use the PureEdge software and some will use the Adobe Reader software.
- Grants.gov is currently transitioning to phase out of PureEdge software to using Adobe Reader software exclusively. For a period of time applicants will still be able to use PureEdge as it is applicable
PureEdge Viewer: Applications using this software are being transitioned out of use.
- You must install this software on your computer or you will not be able to see the application package
Adobe Reader 8.1.2: Applications using this software will eventually replace PureEdge Viewer application packages.
- You use Adobe Reader 8.1.2 to open, fill out and save your application package. Using Acrobat Reader, Adobe Professional or other version may corrupt the application and cause the application to be rejected by grants.gov.
* Vista compatibility Issues: PureEdge Viewer v.6.0.2 is only compatible with Vista when using a Citrix server connection. Grants.gov has setup an alternate solution called Citrix. With this solution, users may download and install a small application from the website called Citrix client for Vista, and follow the instructions. It will allow you to complete and submit a grant application even if you run Windows Vista on their own desktop computer. Please see http://www.grants.gov/help/download_software.jsp#citrixnonwindow for more details. Please note, the Citrix solution works equally well for Mac and other non-Windows users as well as those using Windows VistaCitrix Client.
Is Grants.gov compatible with Office 2007 documents?
- If you are submitting an application with PureEdge you must save the files as .doc, .ppt, .xls as they are saved in versions prior to Office 2007 (such as Office 97, Office 2000, Office 2003 etc.)
- The default file formats used by Office 2007 are incompatible with PureEdge packages. This causes processing exception errors if the grant opportunity is based on PureEdge forms.
