Faculty Publication/Exhibit Support

For FY10, the Research and Sponsored Programs Office has allocated $7,000 in matching funds from its portion of centrally distributed indirect funds to provide faculty with publication/exhibition support. The purpose of the support is to assist faculty in:

  • obtaining reprints of their publications,
  • defraying page publication costs, and
  • defraying incidental costs associated with invited artistic performances or juried art exhibits (not to include travel, per diem, or lodging).

The Research and Sponsored Programs Office will provide matching funds up to a maximum of $200 per faculty member in FY10, with the matched portion coming from any combination of College funds and Departmental funds or funds provided by an external grant. Thus, a faculty member could obtain a maximum of $400 in publication support in FY10, $200 from his/her external grant/Department/School/College and $200 in matching funds from RSP. Colleges/Departments lacking funds for publication support may request a waiver, but any such waiver request must be routed through the college research coordinator of the applicant.

Funds made available for this program will be allocated among the colleges in proportion to FTE generated. The maximum level of support specified above is utilized as a means of making these funds available to as many faculty members as possible, and will be dispersed until the funds are depleted.

Guidelines for Support: Faculty may pay their own costs and request reimbursement but must provide Research and Sponsored Programs with documentation of payment, or may request that the publisher or gallery be paid directly.

  • “Documentation of payment” is defined as either the receipted invoice or a copy of the invoice and a copy of the cancelled check in payment thereof.
  • If requesting reimbursement, RSP will need the UID of the faculty member.
  • If payment is to be made directly to the publisher or gallery, the invoice should be submitted with the request for direct payment. If the amount exceeds $200, the faculty member should attach payment for the balance to the documentation sent to Research and Sponsored Programs so that the publisher or gallery receives full payment.

Process for Submitting Requests: To request publication support, faculty must complete a short application form and send it, along with supporting documentation, to Scott Sakaluk, Director, 3040 Research and Sponsored Programs (or by e-mail to sksakal@ilstu.edu). The request is to include the title of the article, journal name, and the level of support provided by an external grant/department or school/college. The application must be signed by both the chair/director of the department/school and college research coordinator. If the request is for an entrance exhibit fee, specific details should be provided. If faculty anticipate that a request for payment will be made near the end of the fiscal year (e.g., May/June), it is recommended that Research and Sponsored Programs be advised so that funds may be encumbered. Requests should be submitted as early in the fiscal year as possible.
