Research and Sponsored Programs is the office authorized to submit grant and sponsored project proposals on behalf of the University.
Cayuse424 is a web-based system to facilitate grant proposal submissions as well as provide an electronic internal routing system for University required forms.
Principal Investigators (PI) serve as project leaders as well as taking the lead on submitting the proposal. The Principal Investigator Guidelines will provide information on PI responsibilities and eligibility.

The Proposal Submission Form (Microsoft Word, PDF) is a required institutional document indicating University approval and commitment for the project requesting funding. The basic form, along with any appropriate appendices, must be completed with all required signatures and submitted to RSP before any requests for funding may be submitted.
The General Data Information Sheet provides basic University information needed for proposal submissions such as: Employer Identification Number, Congressional District, University Legal Name, Indirect Costs information, etc.
Some funding agencies require cost-sharing to indicate the University's commitment to the project. Cost-sharing may take the form of actual dollars, in-kind contributions, contributed effort, or a combination. Whatever the form may be, it requires departmental/school and college approval.
Indirect costs (also known as Facilities and Administration or F&A) provide funds to cover the University's overhead of the project. Illinois State participates in periodic negotiations to establish our federal rate.
Some agencies have specific requirements for proposal submission. The National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health both require PI registration. Grants.gov requires institutional registration but does not require individual PI registration.
